I used drinking to deal with PTSD instead of actually talking to somebody who could help me.

Chris Swift (US Army, 1999-2018) explains how he used alcohol to cope instead of seeking out help for PTSD.

Transcript

I have PTSD.

I use drinking to deal

with PTSD instead of

actually talking

to somebody who could help me,

and then I wouldn't have to have

these maladaptive behaviors.

I could build my relationships

back with my family and friends,

and I wouldn't have to be

feeling like an outsider now,

you know,

because I had to repair

a lot of relationships after

my drinking rendezvous.
